The Mount Elbrus expedition is an exhilarating journey to Europes
highest peak.

Adventure Peaks has resumed expeditions to Elbrus BUT it must be understood the Foreign Office Advice is to avoid travel to this region. See below
“We advise against all but essential travel to North Ossetia, Karachai-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria (including the Elbrus area).” – From Foreign Office Website 24th April 2007
For more information please visit the Foreign Office Website: http://www.fco.gov.uk
From our recent expedition (April 2007), any risk appears to be between the airport and our hotel, a road journey of about 4 hours. If you decide to participate in an Elbrus Expedition you must understand you are travelling against Foreign Office advice and accept the risk and any consequence. Adventure Peaks by running this expedition does not overrule Foreign Office Advice.
Background
At 5642m, Elbrus rises majestically from a beautiful alpine-like
valley dominated by dramatic glaciated peaks. On this expedition
you will gradually gain height and increase your fitness by acclimatising
carefully on other nearby peaks. This will give you the opportunity
of attaining a further Caucasian summit as well as Elbrus. Once
acclimatised, we have the option of using the cable car from Terskol
for the first part of our journey. Our route follows sweeping
snow slopes to the col between Elbrus’ twin summits. Unlike
many parties, we ascend the steepening slopes to the West Peak;
this is the true summit of Europe’s highest mountain.
Although technically straightforward, the summit day is long and
strenuous. As well as an impressive achievement in its own right,
this trip will also give you a good indication as to whether you
are ready to tackle the slightly higher and more ambitious Seven
Summits peak of Aconcagua or even Mt Vinson.
MOSCOW & ST PETERSBURG EXTENSION
(plus 3 days)
This extension is for those who wish to explore in greater depth
the two great cities of Russia. Moscow: the Kremlin, St Basil’s
Cathedral, Red Square or perhaps a visit to one of the many classic
opera, ballets or state circuses. St Petersburg, the ‘Venice
of the North’, provides an interesting contrast to Moscow,
a magical city of architecture, museums and art galleries.
Level
of support
This expedition will be led by a British leader who will be accompanied
by our excellent English speaking localmountaineer who will assist
us with local transport and translation. For the days that we
are not camping,we will stay in a reputable local hotel. We will
maintain the high levels of comfort and provision that you would
expect on any Adventure Peaks expedition.
