Mt Asgard
Altitude 2011m, Duration 23 days, Grade 4D (grades)
Without question one of the finest rock routes on the planet - Leo Houlding

Background
Mt Asgard is now the most famous mountain of Canada’s Baffin Island and arguably the most beautiful. There are few mountains in the world with such a striking profile as that of the North Tower. It is extremely remote and can only really be approached by boat from Pangnirtung (nearest Inuit settlement). Base camp is set up at summit lake approach from the fjord-head up the steep sided Weasel Valley. The peak is composed of twin cylindrical, flat-topped summits separated by a narrow 150metre deep notch. Our planned ascent will follow the original 1953 Swiss route up the North Tower (IV 5.7 A1 or 5.9). Given good weather and an early ascent, time would be spent exploring other peaks.with an ascent of the technical easy Tete Blanche 2135m. Suitable for the strong VS climber who has winter climbing skills to Scottish grade 2.
