Mount Vinson is a stunning mountain in an extreme environment.
100% success on all previous expeditions
Background
Antarctica is a land of dreams; a pristine
environment of epic proportions and
extremities. For half of the year, when there
is 24 hours of daylight, the snow really does
shine whiter than white. Mount Vinson
occupies a grand position at the base of the
Antarctic Peninsula; the coldest, most
windswept continent on earth. The elegant
symmetrical pyramids of the Ellsworth
Mountains give rise to the complex high glacial
massif of Vinson itself. From its peak
you will be awe struck by the clarity of the
views to the nearby peaks of Mount Shinn
and Mount Gardner, and far beyond the
South Pole. The route taken is a low technical
climb, but we are in a potentially extreme
environment that will offer a real physical
and mental challenge. It is advisable to book
at least 6-9 months in advance.
Level of support
No sherpa or porter support is available on
these trips. Success is therefore dependent
on expedition members having a good level
of fitness and the ability to carry reasonable
loads each day on the mountain. Each
member of the team will have use of a radio
whilst out on the hill.
Why Climb With Adventure Peaks
Expeditions to Vinson
are challenging but overall have a good success rate. All our
previous expeditions have been successful. The most common reason
for failure is the extreme weather. For an additional $6000 you
can extend your expedition to around 28 days. If success is achieved
early we will attempt to summit further peaks, including Mount
Shinn, Gardner or Mount Tyree (for those with a high level of
technical skills) the second highest peak in Antarctica. This
expedition is likely to be a trip of a lifetime; savour this momentous
experience!
