Background
- Kinabalu, SE Asia’s highest peak
- Extended jungle trekking
- Caves, Orang-utans, Pinnacles, River cruises
This trip of a lifetime allows you to explore the magnificence of Borneo on a journey through Sarawak and Sabah. We spend more time on foot exploring the magic Mulu pinnacles and jungle trekking in the foothills before ascending Mt Kinabalu (4104m), the highest mountain in SE Asia. We journey into the depths of the equatorial rainforest at Mulu National Park and explore some of the largest caves on earth. After trekking through the jungle we have a day to explore and climb the incredible limestone Pinnacles which emerge high above the rainforest canopy. There is also an option to traverse the Mulu Canopy Skywalk; amazing swinging rope bridges set high up in the jungle canopy amongst the orchids and fernery.
On the second part of our trip in Sabah we precede our Kinabalu ascent with two full days trekking in its jungle foothills where we learn special jungle survival skills from our local guides, and collect our own wild food for the evening meal! We approach Mt Kinabalu via the less used Misalau route, and have the option to try a via ferrata on the way down. Finally we head west to visit to the Sepilok rehabilitation centre to meet orang-utans and enjoy a boat trip on the mighty Kinabatanagan River, the 3rd longest in Borneo. This wildlife reserve is home to an astonishing array of wildlife including pygmy elephants, wild orang-utans, gibbons, Proboscis monkey and rare birdlife. A final night at a beach resort and a swim in the warm South China Sea prepares you for the journey home.
