Uganda's Ruwenzori Mountains
Altitude 5109m, Duration 15 days, Grade T4 (grades)

Background
- Climb Mt.Stanley, Africa’s third highest summit
- Queen Elizabeth National Park
- The Mountains of the Moon
The mystical Mountains of the Moon – we make no pretences this is definitely not a place for comfort seekers! Shrouded in mist for much of the year, and subject to a high annual rainfall, this can feel like one of the wildest vegetated places on the planet. For two decades the early explorers failed to even see the mountain summits; but when the mists cleared, Africa’s third highest peak, permanently snow covered, was discovered. Six major summits and numerous subsidiary summits are split by deep gorges, densely vegetated with their endemic varieties of luxuriant giant groundsel, giant lobelia and lower down, giant heather! The unique climate generated by the clash of humid air from the Congo basin and the crispness produced by the altitude creates this inhospitable but truly unique environment.
However, the rewards of views from the summits during the drier (note drier, not dry!) seasons make it all worthwhile – they are spectacular. Our itinerary allows plenty of time, with spare days built in, to ascend Mt. Stanley on our circular trek though the main massif. We finish with a visit to the Queen Elizabeth National Park and give you the option to extend your trip to see the fabled gorillas.
Local park fees are high, but included in our price, so it is not a cheap trip. But if you want to feel like an African explorer, take the plunge, get the wellies on and go and trek the Ruwenzori!
Why not extend your stay with our 4 day Gorilla Safari?
Prices are exclusive of international flights to Entebbe.
