Elbrus South Expedition

Leader: Clive Hebblethwaite

Departed: 6th September 2018

14th September

Summit success on Elbrus! Six members of the group, together with their guides, reached the summit of Elbrus yesterday in a brief weather window. It has been a tough few days with -25c windchill and high winds blowing the last three days of snowfall. Everyone is now safely down in the valley in Cheget.

9th Sept

Further acclimatisation trekking today to 3400m before returning to the hotel. The weather steadily closed in today so we will keep a close eye on the forecast for the coming days. We plan to go up to the Barrels tomorrow, then training and acclimatisation on Tuesday and Wednesday.

8th Sept

The whole group arrived at last yesterday. Looking at the forecast we decided to walk to the summit above Syltran Lake and return to the hotel the same day rather than camping out. Most of the team reached just over 3400m on Syltran ridge before descending.
