Itinerary

Day 1/2

International flights depart and arrive in Kathmandu the following evening. Transfer to hotel close to the famous bustling Thamel district of Kathmandu and within easy walking distance of its many temples and tourist attractions.

Day 3

Drive to the road head at Besisahar 5hrs (also known as Lamjung) stopping for lunch on route. Besisahar is the original starting point for the Annapurna Circuit.

Day 4

Drive to Pisang (3200m) 5hrs
Following the Marsyangdi river our dramatic drive winds its way deeper into the heart of the Annapurna range. Landslides can occur on occasion, which can cause delays, but this is part of Nepali life in this area.

Day 5

Acclimatisation Day Trek towards Yak Kharka 3870m or Pisang BC 4380m. returning to Upper Pisang Village for our overnight stay. This is an important day to allow our bodies to acclimatise.

Day 6

Move to Pisang BC 4380m
The trek from Upper Pisang village to Pisang Base Camp offers a stunning transition from traditional Himalayan culture to the raw, rugged beauty of the high mountains. Starting at Upper Pisang, a charming village perched on a hillside with ancient monasteries and panoramic views of Annapurna II, the trail ascends through alpine forests, yak pastures, and narrow, rocky paths. As the altitude increases, the landscape becomes more barren and dramatic. 5 to 6 hours walking.

Day 7

Acclimatisation Day – It is important to allow our bodies to acclimatise unlike many companies we have this additional day where we trek up towards 5000m and take the opportunity to also practice how to ascend and descend fixed lines in preparation for the summit day. Panoramic views will start to unfold of Annapurna range, Chulu East, Chulu Far East, Nawal peak, Tilicho Peak.

Day 8

Move to Pisang High Camp 5400m. Retracing our steps we should reach High camp in around 6 hours where we rest, eat and drink in readiness for our summit day.

Day 9

Summit Day we start early in the morning to climb Pisang Peak 6091m , the ascent involves Glacial roped travel and the use of fixed lines (practiced during the acclimatisation phase) and should take around 6 hours to the summit and another 3-4 hrs in descent. Summit views on a clear day are spectacular as you look out across the Annapurna Range. Return to BC.

Day 10

Trek BC to Ngawal 3650m
We start early in the morning and walk for 3 hours to get a stunning view from the Ghyaru Village. After spending a hour there, we will continue our journey to Ngawal and stay overnight in tea house of Ngawal. It is a great little village, with cobbled streets, prayer wheels and classic Tibetan architecture.

Day 11

Trek to Chulu Far East BC 4600m
Leaving Ngawal the trail climbs steadily and crosses the Cheggi Khola River before gradual rising through fir and juniper woodland to a small meadow and apple field known for its herder's hut. Continue past two impressive waterfalls fed from tall cliffs in the distance. Basecamp is in a small meadow.

Day 12

Trek to Chulu Far East High Camp 5400m
Today, starting early in the morning we head for Chulu Far East High Camp near a small lake in time for lunch. Time to get some rest and make final preparations for the climb.

Day 13

Summit Day (Chulu Far East 6059m) Return to Basecamp (4835m). PEAK 2
We make a pre-dawn start as we set off up the initial slopes to a prominent col which we should reach in about an hour from camp. From the col we cross easy angled snow slopes for around 100 metres of ascent before the route steepens, and we negotiate a 'bulge' where the slope angle is around 40 degrees. A second bulge can usually be avoided by taking a traverse out toward the rock of the ridge and then working our way back up easy angled snow to the crest. The final push is up a narrow ridge for around 200 metres to a perfect mountain summit. There are tremendous views of all the Annapurna’s plus Manaslu, the Ganesh Himal and to the north we can look over the dry barren landscape of Mustang and Tibet. We reverse our route first to the col and then to high camp. After some rest and refreshment here, we continue the descent to basecamp. 8 - 10 hrs trekking/climbing 12 kms

Day 14

Trek to Manang Village 3540m
Trek down to the Marsyangdi Valley and continue on the Annapurna Circuit to Manang (3520m).
A day of downhill, starting with the return to Chulu Village where we take lunch. From here we continue the descent to reach the main trail coming from Ngawal which turns and runs parallel to the course of the Marsyangdi River, before dropping to Mungdi at which point we have rejoined the Annapurna Circuit trail. From Mungdi, it is a further hour up the valley to the bustling town of Manang and our overnight Teahouse. 6 hrs trekking Distance 15 km.

Day 15

Trek Manang to Letdar 4200m
The trail ascends for a short distance to Gunsang, a small settlement of tea houses and an amazing viewpoint of the mountains. It finally levels out into the open pasture lands from which the name Yak Kharka (meaning Yak Pastures) is derived. After having Lunch here, we walk for another hour and reach Letdar where we stay overnight.

Day 16

Letdar to Chulu West BC 4800 - 5100m
We establish the Chulu West Base Camp some where between 4810 and 5100m.

Day 17

Trek to Chulu West High Camp 5500
We continue climbing towards High Camp across the rocky terrain. Although the climb today doesn’t involve many technical parts, in some places we may have to use ropes, crampon and ice-axe.

Day 18

Climb to Camp 1

Day 19

Summit Chulu West 6419m
With the goal of being on the summit by sunrise, we begin our summit push quite early at around 03:00 am. The long gradual ascent to the summit of Chulu West requires fixed ropes as the ridge grows increasingly narrow. You can expect to climb around 9-10 hours on this day. Our Climbing Sherpa Guide will fix ropes to ensure our safe ascent and descent. View from the summit includes Three 8000ers; Mt Dhaulagiri (8167m) Mt Manaslu (8163m) and Mt Annapurna (8091m)

Day 20

Spare Summit Day 1

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
