Mera Peak and Lobuche

Mera Peak and Lobuche

From £4,450
Altitude 6,476m Grade: 2B

This expedition is for those who want to climb Mera Peak or, as a challenging extension, ascend the more technical Lobuche East Peak including a journey across the Amphu Laptsa Pass 5700m to summit two spectacular 6000m Himalayan Peaks.

A spectacular route to Mera Peak

The route we take on Mera Peak is well within the reach of regular mountain walkers with a good level of fitness. Our careful programme of acclimatisation is designed to maximise your chance of comfortably reaching this special summit.

During the course of this expedition we are constantly rewarded with fine views of world famous peaks, including the towering Everest and Lhotse. Mera Peak’s notable summit provides one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Nepal. This magical vantage point offers stunning views of five 8000m peaks, Everest and Lhotse to the north, Kanchenjunga and Makalu to the east and the majestic Cho Oyu to the west.

Mera Peak summit day

Our group will travel to High Camp for Mera Peak at 6476m and rest there. Sleep does not come easy at this altitude, especially with the added excitement of climbing a major Himalayan peak the next day, so getting up at between two and four a.m. is no hardship to team members. It is cold however, and we will aim to be fully kitted out, roped up and in a slow and steady rhythm by dawn. It can take anything from three to eight hours to reach the summit. We will move in groups of three to four clients with either a western guide or strong Khumbu Sherpa to allow people to move at their own pace. Although this is hard work the views are outstanding and the ground is easy. The descent is very quick and we will aim to reach Khare to recuperate after the summit bid.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
