8th Jan

The team have trekked through the moorland zone over the Shira Ridge then to Shira camp located by a stream on the Shira Plateau, today the team got a little bit wet as it was raining, the rain didn’t bother the monkeys though and the team got to see loads. They have also seen lots of birds. The following days have been dry and the team have enjoyed their time on the Shira Plateau which is a World Heritage Site especially being able to see the spectacular views across to Mt Meru.  The team then moved up on good tracks to the Lava Tower (4600m) the team have all felt the altitude a little but are all feeling great now they have dropped altitude again.  Tomorrow they head to Barranco Camp.

4th Jan

Everyone has arrived in Moshi safe and sound with all of their kit, we spent the morning going through all the details of the trip and checking everyone has the correct kit ready. We then headed out into a bustling moshi to get some final supplies and find somewhere for some lunch, moshi is a bustling city where everyone comes across as really friendly, the shop keepers will generally let you browse without too much fuss a stark contrast to many other places such as Marrakesh, some are pushy but will generally leave you alone when they realise they are not going to get a sale. We had slow and definately not rushed lunch at a small cafe ran by the local church which served excellent food at very low cost. The afternoon was spent re packing bags making sure everything was in the right place for the trek before heading out to celebrate Lynns birthday. There is a sense of nervous anticipation amongst the group but all are looking forward to getting going.
