Lobuche East Peak and Ultimate Everest BC Trek

Departed 19th October

Leader: Jude Work

4th November

What a fantastic trip these guys have had.  Here is one last set of photos from our Ultimate Everest and Lobuche Teams.

3rd November

Jude contacted me to say that the Lobuche East group are all back down in Lobuche.  They had a brilliant day reaching the summit. They had good weather and left at 2am after an early breakfast. On the summit at 7am and then back down by 9am. After a three hour break at high camp and lots of tea and lunch they headed back down to Lobuche.  They have also been reunited with the ultimate group who had a great day at base camp yesterday and saw the sunrise on Kala Pattar this morning.  They have sent through some fantastic pictures and I’m sure will have even more to show you when they get home.

31st October

Hello from Dzonglha! That’s us over the Cho La pass and now at our next teahouse for the night. A good effort from all the team managing it in 7hrs 45mins. There was a bit of snow cover this morning when we woke up in Dragnag but then we enjoyed a blue sky day with stunning views. From the top of the Cho La (header photo) you get clear views to Lobuche peak from the opposite side that we will be climbing. Tomorrow we will trek to Lobuche village and join the main Khumbu trail which leads towards Everest Base Camp.

29th October

Stunning views across to the 8000m peaks from the top of Gokyo Ri this morning. This afternoon the team can sample the delights of Gokyo’s finest bakeries before they cross the Ngozumpa glacier to Dragnag tomorrow.

28th October

Hello from the team in Gokyo!

On Saturday we headed to Machermo where we were delighted to find the equivalent of deep fried Mars on the menu! (one of the pictures below) Another bakery was tried out and we went to the medic talk on altitude at the IPPG rescue post in the village. Then on Sunday we walked up the ridge North of Machermo in the morning with stunning views of the mountains around including Kyajo Ri and Cho Latse.

Today walking up to the Gokyo Lakes was a longer day but we arrived for lunch and are enjoying our new abode above the turquoise glacial lakes. We are looking forward to a relaxing afternoon in the village with the prospect of walking up Gokyo Ri tomorrow.

25th October

Hello! All is good. We are at Dole and have an afternoon to relax. We have particularly been enjoying some meals such as egg and chips last night! Snowing outside right now so glad to have a half day but it is looking clear again the next few days. We enjoyed walking through the rhododendron forest and have had views of Cholatse, Taboche, Thamserku and Kangtenga. Off to Machhermo tomorrow.

23rd October

Hello from Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu. Everyone is doing well. Today we went up to the village of Khumjung and saw the Yeti Skull in the monestary. The clouds were down a bit but we still caught an excellent view of Ama Dablam. Tomorrow we branch off the main Everest trail, turning left at the fork on the path winding down towards Phortse Tenga on the river. We have the Ultimate Everest base camp team and Lobuche team as one super group now, having waved farewell to the Classic Everest team as they will head up to Tengboche on the main trail tomorrow.

20th October

Everyone and their bags arrived safely in Kathmandu and we went out for our welcome meal as we might not all be back in Kathmandu together later on. Several teams have arrived in Kathmandu today, the Ultimate Everest BC and Lobuche peak team, Classic Everest BC team and Annapurna Circuit team. Those of us flying to Lukla will leave at 3.00 tomorrow morning, whilst the Annapurna Circuit team will drive to Besisahar. Here’s a couple of pictures of everyone at dinner, and including a yak and an abominable snowman!
