Kilimanjaro Rongai Route

Leader: David Balshaw

February 13th: Summit success! After a night of snow, ice and very steep aspects, the whole team has successfully summitted to Uhuro peak. We are now back in camp enjoying a well earned cup of tea. Dave

February 12th: Messages in recently from a snowy Kilimanjaro! Our Tanzania agent reports that there has been a lot of snow recently, with rain lower down. Dave our leader has just sent a text in from Barafu, the last camp before the summit. No mention of the snow but he reports that John and Tina K have decided to descend, but the rest of the team are chomping at the bit (and some food) and ready to start their bid for the summit at around midnight tonight.

If there has been a lot of snow we can hope for lots of nice pictures – assuming they are blessed with good weather for the summit.

February 10th: Dave sent a text message last night from Shira Camp. The team of seven clients plus Dave are all well and enjoying the food that they are being provided with. At Shira camp they are below a snow covered Uhuru Peak and above the clouds – pure bliss! Today they will ascend to the Lava Tower at 4600m before descending again to Barranco at 3950m – the main acclimatisation day before pushing on to the summit.

February 8th: The team all ready to head out. A little light snow on the mountain made for a spectacular drive up to the park gate. Everyone is raring to go! Dave

February 7th: I’m back in Moshi for the night. Have met the new clients and are just starting to pack ready to head out again tomorrow. Dave.

February 6th: Great news, we have summited Mount Meru and are now back at the Saddle Hut. The team have done fantastic with 10 hours from hut to summit and back again. Dave
