Balkan 3 Peaks - 18th July 2026

Balkan 3 Peaks - 18th July 2026

Leader: Chris Brook

23rd July 2026 - Mt Korab (2764m)

After a transfer of 1.5hours, the group began their ascent of Albania's highest peak, Mt Korab (2764m). A long uphill push right from the start saw the group through pine forest, alpine meadows and finally a windy summit ridge, to the top in 4 hours. With spectacular views across Albania and northern Macedonia, having scaled all their peaks, the team descends towards their celebratory meal in Radamire. Their final night of mountain accommodation.

22nd July 2026 - Summit Gjeravija - from Doberdol

A gentle rise up the valley to the pass and along the incredible plateau traverse past the heart-shaped lake (famous in Kosovo) and around the ridge line to the summit. The group made good time in the morning in good weather with a cloudy top. Down to the cabin in the cloud, where we were treated to coffee and local blueberries by a family who took us in while we waited, getting an experience tire kosovan hospitality, a real treat at the end of a wonderful day.

21st July 2026 - Doberdol

A gentler day trekking amongst the Balkan mountains, heading towards our 2nd peak, the highest in Kosovo. Through heavy showers and scorching sun the team made it to Doberdol, the small mountain village and the launch pad for Gjeravica.

20th July 2026 - Via Alpine Meadows & Persllopit Pass to Montenegro's Highest Summit

6am breakfast and a 7am start today for the team as they head for the lowest and most technical peak. A savage start saw them traversing before a rise up to the first col. From there, they headed right, and up some short scrambling sections to the peak, where amazing views across the Balkans awaited. They retraced their steps to the col for the long downhill to the accommodation for a well earned rest.

19th July 2026 - Komani Lake

After a 6am start to catch the ferry, the team sailed along Komani lake to the start of their hike. Only 6km today to get to the accommodation, ready for their first full day tomorrow.

18th July 2026 - Tirana to Shkoder

The team left Tirana for Shkoder, the gateway to the Balkan 3 peaks. A 3-hour bus ride, lunch and relaxing by the lake before the long travel day into the mountains tomorrow.
