Today, we descended to Base Camp with 25kg packs. This afternoon, the weather turned suddenly, bringing rain and thunder. It is now raining heavily at Base Camp. The earliest we can chopper out is 26th July.
Today, we made a carry to Camp 2. However, at approx. 5100m, we decided to retreat. This was due to the weather forecast. The prosect of making a descent in bad weather in a serious, exposed location was a major cause of concern. This meant that we had plenty of time for a leisurely descent back to Camp 1 with lots of learning along the way. Another splendid night at Camp 1 and a bivouac for Philippe.
We climbed to Camp 1 for our summit push. A beautiful evening brought the day to a close.
Our team remains at Base Camp. Heavy rain has encouraged another rest day.
A day at Base Camp to rest, acclimatise, and prepare to head up the mountain.
Today's objective was simple: a load carry to Camp 1 before returning to base.
At last, the weather gods played ball and the helicopter for Base Camp arrived! Fixed rope skills session called...
Acclimatisation hike today to 3160m. No chopper due to weather so fingers crossed for tomorrow
The group will hang around near the airfiled today, watiing for their chance to fly into Base Camp. Sometimes easier said than done as the weather has a mig impact!
The team Arrived in Bishkek today. Having done their expedition shopping, they have Driven to Karkara where they will get their helicopter to Base camp. If the weather is good, they will fly to BC tomorrow.
