Mera and Island Peak - Expedition News - 11th October 2025

Expedition Leader: John Walker

24th October 2025 - Summit Success on Mera Peak

We've had confirmation from John of summit success on Mera Peak and the team are now continuing on with their itinerary.

21st October 2025 - Skills and Acclimatisation at Khare

We are on our acclimatisation day at Khare, and all the team have thoroughly enjoyed it. We benefited from the recent snows, in that we didn't have to walk more than 30m from the tea house to practice our rope and crampon skills. Then, after a good lunch, (when everyone still had a great appetite, notable over 4900m), we had an extremely scenic walk up to 5200m. The moraine ridge had simply fantastic views of the whole valley, Mera Peak itself, our onward route, and countless other peaks.
Tomorrow we ascend to Mera Peak base camp, and hopefully the next day, high camp.

19th October 2025 - Arrived at Thangnak

Arrived at Thangnak, everyone is doing very well, and looking forward to getting higher tomorrow, and a rest and skills day.
The group are gelling together well, but there is some intense inter-group rivalry in the tea houses, playing Monopoly Deal! 😉🙂
So far the weather has been settled, with sunny mornings and cloud building as we arrive at the end of each trek, so there has been some ingenuity applied to getting laundry dry as we walk!
Saw a fantastic lammergaier today, soaring effortlessly in the breeze, splendid.

14th October 2025 - Arrived at Pangcongma

We have arrived at Pangcongma in good form. We had good conditions for both day's walking, with the cloud building slowly, but no rain until evening. The drive to Ramechhap was a testing 7hrs, with the roads in very poor condition, but the folks enjoyed the flight. We were very, very tired, the later arrivals having had no sleep before our midnight departure, but once we got walking, all was good.

12th October 2025 - Ready for the Off!

All the team have now fianlly arrived into Kathmandu. Kit has been checked, the group have been fed and watered and are raring to go. Only a few hours rest before the early morning departure to Ramechhap.

11th October 2025 - Departure Day

The team will leave the UK from their respective airports to begin their journey to Mera and Islands peaks
