Another alpine start this morning for the team as they make their attempt to climb the highest volcano in North America.
Beautiful sunrise as Popocatapetl was letting off ash, views of Pico and Malinche!
1 am and they were off! The Izta summit called. Or early risers returned back to base camp before driving to Zoapan for a well-deserved rest.
You can never have too many pyramids or Mexican lunches... Sated, our team moved to Iztaccihuah Base Camp to relax before their very earlys start the next day.
An early start for our first ascent: La Malinche. The day commenced in the shade of pine forests before arriving at the start of the steep angled slopes.
Our team has left Mexico City. This included their luggage, some of which was reluctant to leave Madrid and fly to Mexico... Their journey to La Malinche incorporated a fascinating tour of the Teotihuacan Pyramids. On arrival at La Malinche, a short acclimatisation walk beckoned.
Tim and Catherine arrive in Mexico City this evening and the rest of the team will arrive tomorrow. On Friday, they will have a guided tour of the Teotihuacan Pyramids, before heading to the Malinche Cabins.
