No rain, no wind, no excuses! Today's conditions were perfect. Forest trails, alpine meadows, and a rocky ascent to the summit of Giewont (1894m) were the order of the day.
The itinerary said 'head steeply up to the Iwaniacka Przelecz saddle'. The weather said otherwise.
Today's plans were thwarted by storms and strong winds. The only sensible option was to have a short day and retreat back to the valley before the storm arrived. By afternoon, this was shown to be the correct decision. The storms and strong winds were accompanied by regional floods. Our team will not have such a relaxing day tomorrow! The forecast is looking good!
Rested, our team ticked off two summits today. First on the list, on the Slovak border, was Grzes at 1653m, followed by Rakon at 1879m. Mountain huts provided refreshment stops and time to chill briefly. Lots of calories were burned though in anticipation of tonight's local eatery in Zakopane. A delight of this itinerary is the opportunity to sample different foods in local restaurants.
Today, the team will be flying out to poland. From there, they will be met and transferred to Zakopane, where they will have time to explore the town for the rest of the day.
