Aconcagua Fast Track Expedition

Aconcagua Fast Track Expedition

Altitude 6,962m Grade: 1C

Named ‘Acconcahuac’ (the stone sentinel) by the Incas, Aconcagua is the highest peak in the Southern and Western hemispheres, the second highest of the Seven Summits and the world’s highest summit outside of the Himalaya.

Aconcagua Fast Track is a highly supported expedition that reduces the duration of our Aconcagua 360° Expedition into just two weeks. Time is saved by acclimatise at home using a hypoxic tent for four weeks prior to the expedition start date. Acclimatised you will fly by Helicopter into Plaza Argentina basecamp 4100m and make your ascent by the false Polish traverse route from the east, a much less frequented and beautiful route. The descent is via the Normal Horcones Route to Plaza de Mulas in the west from where you helicopter out. You will require previous mountaineering experience to 4800-5000m, combined with a high level of fitness, commitment, and determination.
UNDERSTANDING ACONCAGUA FAST TRACK EXPEDITIONS
Time away from home or work is always a difficult balance for high altitude expeditions. In recent years using a Hypoxic Tent at home to assist with pre-acclimatisation is gaining momentum as a way of reducing the time away.
The altitude tent goes above your bed for a minimum of four weeks to gain benefits equal to around 4-5000m. We will provide full instructions and a training programme to ensure maximum efficiency and safety in training. The system is delivered/collected by DHL

Our climbing Services are the very best and we have achieved outstanding summit success over many years. Highest quality base camp and food, porters to assist climbers in moving gear up the mountain, (porters carry group gear, tents, stoves fuel) The combination of our high-quality Base Camps, porter support, and pre acclimatization allows those climbing Aconcagua an excellent chance of reaching the summit. This route is non-technical.

Why Aconcagua Fast Track with Adventure Peaks

  • Expedition leader from the UK and a regular team of local Argentinian mountain guides to give a 1:3 ratio on summit day! 1:1 or 1:2 guiding available.
  • Helicopter to and from Basecamp
  • Pre-acclimatisation in a hypoxic tent for a shortened Aconcagua Fast Track expedition
  • High-altitude porters to carry group equipment and remove rubbish and human waste.
  • Communal tent at camp 1 & 2 and a cook tent at camp 3 allowing you better opportunities to relax
  • High Quality food. A cook team prepares food in BC and our guides prepare all meals above BC using a variety of fresh ingredients avoiding the use of freeze-dried food.
  • Adventure Peaks has been operating successfully on Aconcagua for over twenty years and we have gradually developed what we see as the best overall approach to the mountain, giving you the best chance to acclimatize and retain strength for your summit bid.
  • 100% trip success for 2019/20 (prior to covid) and 2022 season.

Previous experience/fitness

Our fast-track Aconcagua is non-technical and is suitable for fit mountain walkers who have previously been to around 5500m and used ice axe and crampons. In comparison to 5-6000m peaks such as Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua is much more of a “proper” expedition, and a definite step-up in overall difficulty and hardship. Having good knowledge of your kit and being able to look after yourself while on the mountain will help you enjoy the trip and give you the best chance of success.

The Summit Day on Aconcagua will prove to be extremely tiring, and you must therefore make sure you are very mountain fit and used to long mountain days.

Wild camping experience will help prepare you for daily life on expedition and the potential harsh environment. If you don’t already have this experience then you may benefit from our Scottish Winter Expedition Skills courses, or Aconcagua training weekends in the Lake District

Aconcagua can be a very cold mountain therefore quality clothing, gloves and boots are essential for your own comfort and safety.

Boots – the best boots are Boreal G1 Lite’s, La Sportiva G2 or another double lined boot.

Gloves – Down over-gloves/mitts with a normal glove as an inner are recommended.

Clothing – on summit day good quality Insulated trousers and a down 7000m jacket are required. A down suite is too hot and unsuitable.

All of the above items can be bought or hired from Adventure Peaks.  Clients receive a 15% discount when purchasing equipment and clothing from the shop.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
