Itinerary

Day 1 International travel

Day 2 Arrive Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel close to the famous, bustling Thamel district of Kathmandu.

Day 3 We take an early helicopter flight to Kyangjing Gompa (monastery) at 3,849m, well above the Langtang River. In the afternoon we can either head up a side valley to the foot of the Langtang and Kyimoshung glaciers, or climb onto some of the surrounding ridges for close up views of Langtang Lirung and the beautiful so called Fluted Peak. 4 hours walking.

Day 4 Training Day 1

Day 7 Training Day 2

Day 9 Training Day 3

In no specific order the following areas of skills will be covered as part of the three specific training days or embeddied within the peak climbing days

  • Use of Ice Axe and Crampons
  • Glacial Travel
  • Crevasse Rescue
  • Travelling on fixed lines
  • Rappelling/Abseiling
  • Building High Altitude Camps
  • Food issues at altitude
  • Cooking and Boiling Water at high Altitude

Day 5 Above Khyangin there are a number of smaller peaks we can ascend for acclimatisation. Tsergo Ri (4850m) involves a round trip of about 5 hours and we are rewarded with a stunning panoramic view from the top including Shishapangma, one of the world's 8000m peaks, and our main objective, Naya Kanga. 5 hours walking.

Day 6 A fairly short day takes us up to Yala Peak base camp giving time for relaxation and a little more training and prepartions in the afternoon. 3 hours walking.

Day 7 Training Day 2

Day 8 Ascent of Yala Peak, a “trekking peak” in the Langtang Region of Nepal. It is classed as Grade F/PD (easy/moderate) on the Alpine Grading system although this can vary by a point or so depending on the snow conditions

Day 9 Training Day 3

Day 10 Carrying our own personal belongings (Porters/Sherpa move group gear) we ascend to the high camp on the route to the Ganja La and to the east of Naya Kanga. 3 hours walking.

Day 11 We have allowed two days for the ascent of Naya Kanga in case of poor weather or if we need more time for acclimatisation. Starting off in the early hours of the morning we move upwards in small groups. The route crosses an ice shelf at the base of the north ridge from where a snowy couloir is ascended to gain the broad ridge above. This is the steepest and most challenging part of the ascent and fixed lines will be used to assist progress. Once on the ridge, the final walk along to the summit is relatively straightforward, but still hard work at this altitude. After feasting on the views and our success we retrace our steps, stripping the high camp on the way and return to base camp. 15 hours walking/climbing.

Day 12 Spare day for extra acclimatisation, further training or a second summit attempt.

Days 13 Retrace our route back to Kyangjing Gompa..

Day 14 Helicopter  back to Kathmandu, followed by the comforts of the hotel, a shower and a celebratory meal out.

Day 15-16  In Kathmandu or Depart Kathmandu. Some flights will get you back to the UK the same day.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
