This Alpine Expedition Training course is based in the central Tien Shan. This is a wild and remote region of Kyrgystan, at the base of Khan Tengri (7010m), one of the world’s most beautiful peaks. We fly in by helicopter for your training course and an attempt will be made on Karly Tau Peak (5450m) via two camps.
Alpine Expedition Training courses are set in magnificent areas of the world, far away from the crowded European Alps. You will undergo training in Alpine skills and learn what it feels like to be part of an expedition whilst also being able to attempt your first Himalayan Peak at 5450m or 6000m with the Chapeyev extension. The course is ideal for regular mountain walkers or climbers who want to broaden their experience under the guidance of our expert leaders and instructors. No technical skills are required but you will need a good level of fitness.
If you wish to extend the expedition to include Peak Chapeyev (6073m), you should have experience of climbing at Scottish grade 1 or have done a winter mountaineering course. The ascent of Chapayev involves establishing two camps and shares the approach with Khan Tengri. It adds an extra 6 days to the expedition, from 16 days to 22 days.
For this trip we have achieved a fully inclusive cost for two weeks that is roughly equivalent to many one week courses in the European Alps! The courses cover the following essential alpine and expedition skills:
- Use of Ice Axe and Crampons
- Glacial Travel
- Crevasse Rescue
- Travelling on fixed lines
- Local Culture
- Building High Altitude Camps
- Food issues at altitude
- Cooking and boiling water at High Altitude
