Altitude 4167m, Grade T3

Experience authentic Berber village life on a different approach to Toubkal with excellent acclimatisation.

Our Mount Toubkal Trek route passes through a valley that sees few trekkers, remote traditional Berber villages that offer an insight into the life of the Berbers, and a romantic medieval culture that has hardly changed for centuries. Following a careful programme of acclimatisation, we ascend Aguelzim (3550m) before summiting Toubkal (4167m), the highest mountain in North Africa. The views across the Jebel Sahro and towards the Sahara crest over peaks and ridges into a receding haze of blue. Reports say “What a great trip! You get the full hit of everything in Morocco; hustlers, markets, whacky spices, beautiful mountains, great food and really friendly people make it a trip to be remembered for a long time”.

Extend your stay with extra time to explore Marrakech, staying in a Riad or hotel. Please contact us for more information.

For a winter ascent, please refer to our website or Expeditions brochure.

The trip worked well overall so I would say it was a good trip with good organisation. The grading of the trip was accurate, the day before the ascent was harder than the actual ascent from my perspective. The cook and the guide were very good. There was a good mixture of accommodation and that was also organised very well.

We had a fantastic time, there were so many highlights daily, just seeing, experiencing a completely different life, seeing the ladies, with help from the children doing their washing by the rivers, the goats in the juniper trees, spectacular scenery, great company, great food on the trek. Drinking freshly made orange juice high up in the remote mountains, washing in the river, getting to the summit of Mount Toubkal. Meeting lots of interesting lovely people. I could just go on and on. Highly recommend anyone to have a go.

Fantastic week with no problems at all, all accommodation was amazing and way beyond our expectations. Any problems Jude (trip leader) sorted them asap. She was absolutely amazing! She very quickly tuned into our way of thinking, joining in with some of our madness. She also broached challenging conversations with professionalism and kindness.

Mohammed, the guide, was excellent, very knowledgeable, kind and friendly. Absolutely fantastic, he kept us well informed throughout, was extremely caring, continuing to check up on us, how we were feeling and gave us lots of advice on increasing our chances on summiting. He provided us with facts and information about each destination and briefed us each evening before each walk, discussing options, recommending things we may like to see or do and adjusting each day to suit us. Without Mohammed we would not have been able to experience the mountain life so well. Mohammed even treated us to snacks at his home, with his family, hosting us perfectly which gave us the opportunity to experience Berber life first hand. The trek itself let us experience different cultures and the views are amazing. The highlight was reaching the summit and having the place to ourselves for a few moments to take it all in.
