Saife Peak & Sudarshan Parbet Expedition
This is a combo expedition set in a spectacular setting above the source of the Ganges in the Garhwal region of Northern India. The region is called a mountaineering paradise and benefits from a short approach trek making it possible to attempt two stunning 6000m peaks in just three weeks.
Our main objective is Sudarshan but we anticipate being able to climb the stunning ridge of Saife Peak during our approach and acclimatisation phase of the expedition. The views from both Peaks are spectacular and will leave an indelible impression in your memory. Few groups have discovered these peaks take advantage now!
Saife is a lovely conical shaped snow covered peak in the heart of the Indian Himalaya away from the crowds of Nepal. Technically it is straightforward a bit like Mera Peak with the summit giving spectacular views of all the famous peaks of the Gangotri Glacier including Shivling (one of the most beautiful peaks in the world) and the famous rock spires of the Bhagirathi Towers. Sudarshan is steeper and will require short sections of fixed line work for which training will be given. Sudarshan is a spectacular looking peak that dominates the true right hand skyline of the approach walk that takes you up to the source of the Ganges. This is a fully supported climb where high altitude porters (HAPs) are used to establish three camps (ABC 4880m, C1 5550m, C2 5975) to aid our ascent of this wonderful snow and ice peak. The majestic views of Shivling –the Matterhorn of the Himalayas is always present and it is surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the world. Sudarshan Peak is a good stepping-stone to a 7000 or 8000m Peak

What's Included
- Estimated International flights from London (Flight inclusive package)
- A British expedition team leader.

Itinerary
Days 1 - 2 | Depart UK, Arrive Delhi and transfer to the hotel. Free time for sightseeing in Delhi while the leader attends an expedition briefing at the Indian Mountaineering Federation. |
Day 3 | Train to Haridwar.(4-5hrs) drive to Rishikesh (1hr) |
Day 4 | Drive Drive to to Ultarkashi 7-8hrs (1110m) |
Day 5 | Drive Ultarkashito Gangotri (3048m). A spectacular drive to the road head at Gangotri. Gangotri. is a sacred place for Hindus, as it is the source of the River Ganges. |
Day 6 | Acclimatisation Day at Gangotri (3048m). Having gained significant altitude over the past two days we spend the day around Gangotri undertaking an acclimatisation walk (500m height gain) up a gorge overlooking a spectacular waterfall. |
Day 7 | Trek to Bhojbasa (3784m). Before leaving we visit the temple to take a blessing from the local priest in line with tradition! The morning takes us towards Gamukh and the snout of the Gangotri glacier. We get our first views of the very impressive Bhagirathi Peaks. A further 3-4 hours takes us to our camp at Bhojbasa, meaning ‘Home of the Birch tree’. 14 kms, 7-8hours walking. |
Day 8 | Trek Bhojbasa to Base Camp (4520m). We continue our trek along the Bhagirathi river to finally reach Gaumukh and the snout of the Gangotri glacier. Following the moraine we eventually reach the junction with Raktvarn glacier which we follow for a short distance to camp close to the magnificent Bhagirathi Peaks. Base Camp provides outstanding views of the majestic and beautiful Shivling Peak, the Matterhorn of the Indian Himalaya 6-7 hours walking. |
Day 9 | Acclimatisation Day. We may take a walk upto ABC or stay at Base Camp and sort equipment for the high camps whilst high altitude porters ferry loads up to ABC. |
Day 10 | Trek to Advanced Base Camp (4820m). A fairly rugged day of trekking takes us up the moraine of the Raktvarn glacier to gain the base of the Swetvarn glacier 5-6 hrs |
Days 11 - 13 | During this period we will move up the Swetvarn glacier between ABC and Camp 2 establishing two camps. The rate of progress will be dependent on levels of acclimatisation, weather, glacial conditions and the progress our HAP in moving equipment and supplies. |

Insurance
It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:
- Cancellation or curtailment
- Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)

- The altitude that you are expected to attain
