Itinerary

Day 1

Fly to Skopje (SKP) Welcome to North Macedonia! After arrival, we transfer to Skopje for dinner and overnight in a hotel.

Day 2

Luboten Peak & Overnight in Ljuboten Hut. After breakfast, we drive 2–2.5 hours to Staro Selo and settle into the historic Ljuboten Hut. From here, we climb Luboten Peak (2498 m) — a proud border summit long considered the mountain’s highest. The renovated mountain hut offers old-world charm and legendary hospitality.
9km with 90m ascent and 900m descent.

Day 3

Luboten Hut → Brezovica via Livadica Lake (Kosovo). A beautiful trail day: forest paths, rocky technical sections, and the dramatic cliffs of Luboten. We stop for lunch and—if brave—a swim at Livadica Lake, then descend towards Brezovica in Kosovo. 14.5km with 12000m ascent and 1080m descent

Day 4

Kobilica Pass & Descent to Vejce (MK). From Upper Ljubinje village, we climb through deep beech forests and blueberry fields to the Kobilica Pass. Optional ascent of Kobilica Peak adds 2 hours.
We descend into Vejce, one of Macedonia’s most isolated villages. Hospitality awaits at Hostel Hana, run by a local sheep-farming family famous for their traditional cheese.
16km with 1150m ascent and 1,350m descent. Optional Kobilica Peak + 250m

Day 5

Vejce → Bozovce → Popova Shapka (Hotel Scardus).
After breakfast, a 40-minute transfer brings us to the trailhead. We hike beneath dramatic Sharr ridgelines, past waterfalls and alpine pastures to Karanikola Lake, then descend to the secluded village of Bozovce. After an early dinner, direct transfer to Hotel Scardus for two nights.
20km with 900m ascent and 1,200m descent.

Day 6

Two Hiking Options: Jelak Black Peak or Tito’s Peak.
Option 1- Jelak Black Peak (Easier) A scenic tour through pine forests, meadows, and viewpoints overlooking Kosovo and Skopje. Gentle trails, aromatic rosehip bushes, and panoramic ridges define the day. Optional picnic lunch outdoors, then relax at the hotel SPA afterwards. 14km with 800m ascent and descent
Option 2 – Tito’s Peak (Challenging)
A full day to the highest summit of the Sharr Mountains (2747 m). After a long ridge ascent, we remain above 2400 m for much of the day, enjoying wide views toward all the peaks we have already climbed.
19km with 1,250m ascent and descent.

Day 7

Peak Plat & Wild Camping in Leshnica. We set off directly from the hotel, following a gentle dirt road beneath Ceripashina Peak. Our goal is Peak Plat, offering one of the best 360° panoramas on the entire range. After descending into Upper Leshnica, we reach our magical wild camp: deep pine forest, three converging rivers, and a star-drenched night sky.
14km with 800m ascent and 900m descent

Day 8

Waterfalls, Pena Springs & Descent to Brod → Prizren. After breakfast in camp, we visit the Leshnica Waterfalls, then follow the pristine Pena River up-valley, circling beneath the towering “Third Rock of Leshnica.”
A final ascent takes us to the border ridge, from where we descend into Brod, a remote village famous for its sweet makers. After refreshments, transfer to Prizren for a celebratory dinner.
14km with 800m ascent and 950m descent

Day 9

Prizren → Airport. After breakfast, we enjoy a short city stroll before the group transfer to Pristina or Skopje Airport.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
