Day 1 | International flight (Gatwick), Arrive Podgorica Airport. You will be met and transferred, 2 hr scenic drive, to Žabljak on the edge of the Durmitor National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Depending on your time of arrival we will either enjoy dinner en route, or on arrival. |
Day 2 | Ascent of Crvena Greda (2164m), also known as Red Rock Peak. Today's trek takes you through a variety of stunning scenery with beautiful alpine panoramas and turquoise lakes. Drive to base of mounatin. Starting through forest we climb upwards to gain the open rocky terrain above that takes us to the summit. At the top, breathtaking views of Bobotov Kuk, Durmitor's highest peak and our final challenge. We descend to the Black Lake, which is actual a beautiful clear turquoise lake! Trekking 6-7hrs · 15km · 450m up · 900m down |
Day 3 | Ascent of Prutaš (2393m) Rise early and brace yourself for the ascent to Today’s climb of Prutaš (2393m) in the centre of Durmitor National Park starts from the Šarban pass. A short drive from our accommodation. Like most mountain ascents in the Balkans the trail leaves the valley to gain the lush meadows and above the Skrčka lakes, with the towering peak of Bobotov Kuk looking down on us. The summit offers magnificent views over Montenegro. We return to Žabljak. Trekking 6hrs · 9km · 700m up · 700m down |
Day 4 | Ascent of Bobotov Kuk (2523m). We make a very early start, shortly after sunrise, to make our final climb up Bobotov Kuk (2523m), It's considered the highest peak solely in Montenegro. Zla Kolata in the Albanian Alps is 11m higher, but that mountain sits only partly within the Montenegrin border. We start the ascent at 1625m, it follows the same pattern and terrain as our previous two peaks however the summit is protected by a rocky cap. The summit is therefore reached with the aid of iron and steel cables with a bit of scrambling. The summit views stretch out over Montenegro and into Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania. Once down it is a two-hour drive back to Podgorica. Trekking 7-8hrs · 10km · 850m up · 850m down Driving 2.5hrs |
Day 5 | Goodbye Montenegro when its time to transfer back to Podgorica Airport (just a short 15-minute drive away) for your flight back home. |
