Bernese Oberland 4000m Peaks

Bernese Oberland 4000m Peaks

From £2,495
Altitude 4,000m Grade: Intermediate
6 Mountain Days Guide Ratio: 1:2

The Bernese Oberland 4000m Peaks Course provides a magnificent week of Alpine mountaineering in the shadow of the Eiger and its great North Face.

We aim to climb the Mönch, the Jungfrau, the Finsteraarhorn and possibly the Gross Grünhorn, all 4000m peaks. Throughout the week you will stay as high as possible using some of the excellent mountain huts in this region.

Our other Swiss 4000m Courses include Saas Fee, Zermatt and Peaks of Zermatt.

Previous Experience & Fitness

You should have a good level of fitness as Alpine Mountaineering can be very tiring. Normally we would expect you to be able to enjoy consecutive 8-9 hours days in the British mountains with a medium pack. You should also have previous experience with crampons and ice axe and a basic understanding of glacial travel and crevasse rescue. Our Alpine Intro courses provide sufficient training to meet this prerequisite.

Please note we provide a suggested itinerary and the actual programme may change as a result of weather, conditions on the mountain, availability of mountain huts and individual levels of fitness. If due to any of these reasons a summit attempt is not possible then we usually adjust our programme to another similar objective. If any extra costs for accommodation, transport or food are incurred beyond the suggested itinerary then you will need to pay these directly.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services.  Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000.
