A camping expedition for those who want to experience wild camping or as training for a worldwide expedition or trek.
A Lake District Expedition - Our journey will take a circular route, enabling you to see a large part of the Lake District as we walk valley to valley, lake to lake and peak to peak across stunning mountain scenery. We will camp in the most beautiful remote locations, watch sunrise and sunset from up high, sleep near high mountain tarns and perhaps take the occasional wild swim.
We will take care of moving tents and group gear, but you will be carrying your own personal kit (sleeping bag, spare clothing and a little food - maximum 10-12 kg). Every other day you will be able to access your main baggage for a change of clothing and to re-stock on food from the AP minibus. This journey is great training for expeditions and treks further afield.
We have different expedition routes to suit a relaxed schedule or more demanding itinerary.
Choose the level for you:
Relaxed: 5-6 hours walking per day
This holiday is for relatively fit walkers who want to experience an expedition across the Lake District, taking in several high passes and mountain peaks whilst enjoying nights sleeping in a tent.
Terrain: The routes will be on good mountain paths but may still include some sections of rough terrain that could be relatively steep at times.
Typical days: Most days would include around 5 hours walking with 600-700m of ascent. Total over five days approx. 30-40 miles with 2500-3500m of ascent.
Overnights: Campsites with a washroom and toilet facilities with the option to purchase evening meals nearby.
Ideal training for: Worldwide treks or expeditions such as Kilimanjaro.
Adventurous: 7-8 hours walking per day
This holiday is for fit walkers. We will walk at a steady pace and you can expect to be out for 7-8 hours a day.
Terrain: The routes will not always stick to good paths and the terrain may be rough and boggy, including boulder fields, scree and heather.
Typical days: Most days will involve a mountain ascent of over 3000ft/900m. Total over five days approx. 40-60 miles with 4000-5000m of ascent. Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain, will be included at this level.
Overnights: A combination of 2 nights’ wild camping (no facilities), and 2 nights at valley campsites with a washroom and toilet facilities and the option to purchase evening meals nearby.
Ideal training for: Tough worldwide treks or expeditions such as Mera Peak or Aconcagua.
Mega (very challenging): 8-10 hours walking per day
This holiday is for very fit and experienced mountain walkers who are perhaps training for a high-end expedition at 7-8000m or just want mega days out.
Terrain: The routes will not always stick to good paths and the terrain may be rough and boggy, including boulder fields, scree and heather.
Typical days: The days will be long with substantial height gain and loss of between 1500m-2000m per day. In five days, you will have climbed the equivalent of Mt. Everest 29,000ft/8848m and walked a total of 60-80 miles with 8000-9000m of ascent.
Overnights: A combination of 2 nights’ wild camping (no facilities) and 2 nights at valley campsites with a washroom and toilet facilities and the option to purchase evening meals nearby for the less dedicated purist!
Ideal training for: Tough 7000m or 8000m+ peak expeditions.
Fully inclusive: Instructor/guide, camping food, group equipment (tents & stove) ground and road support requirements.
Accommodation: We will provide 3-person tents for two people (please note single tent supplement applies: £15 per night on a campsite, £25 per night for wild camping nights). You will need to assist with putting up and taking down tents (consider it training!).
Food: Breakfast - ingredients will be provided to enable you to prepare a basic breakfast and hot drink. Packed lunches will be provided each day. Evening meals - you can prepare your own food and hot drinks on the camping stoves (instruction will be given), or alternatively choose to purchase a bar meal whilst at campsites.
If you are training for a 7000m+ mountain peak expedition, it is worth considering you would need to cook or warm high-altitude food above base camp, so this is an ideal opportunity to experience expedition dinners for at least some of the time on this trip! Obviously if this just for fun then the choice is yours.
