Lake District Scramble and Climb

Lake District Scramble and Climb

Grade: Intermediate
3 or 5 instructed days Guide Ratio: 1:2

Our Lake District Scramble and Climb Course will enable confident mountain walkers to transition from mountain walker to mountain climber.

Suitable for those with experience of walking and scrambling over more exposed terrain, such as Striding Edge or Crib Goch. We will combine scrambling with ropes on some classic Lake District ridges and scrambling routes with some of the easier classic multi pitch rock climbing routes. No previous climbing experience needed but you should be happy with mountain exposure.

Mountain scrambling is an adventurous and challenging way of reaching your favourite summits in the Lake District. Following rocky ridges, impressive buttresses and exciting spurs, scrambling is the fluid area between conventional walking and more formal rock climbing. Over the course of 3 or 5 days we will instruct you in the techniques to enable you to move quickly, confidently and safely over steep and rocky ground, progressing on to the essential rope work and route choice skills needed to develop your rock climbing skills.

The severity of the scrambles and climbs undertaken will be tailored to your ability, from the classic Jack's Rake on Pavey Ark to Pinnacle Ridge on St Sunday Crag. Some of the classic rock climbing routes may include climbs on Shepherd's Crag and Troutdale Pinnacle.

The Lake District Scramble and Climb course is great just for the experience or to start your preparation for a more technical expedition such as Carstensz Pyramid, Ama Dablam or Mount Kenya. It is also ideal training for Alpine ascents involving climbing on more vertical ground, for example the Matterhorn or Eiger.

You should have experience of 3 season hill walking and be happy on the classic walkers ridges such as Striding Edge or Sharp Edge, indicating you have a good head for heights and steeper terrain and a reasonable level of fitness.
