The Matterhorn is one of the most recognisable and exquisitely beautiful mountains in the world, a must-do mountain on any Alpinist's tick list!
The week starts in Saas Fee, giving access to some perfect training and acclimatisation peaks up to around 4000m. The intention is for the first 3 days to be used in preparation on rock and mixed terrain, with the remaining 3 days being used to climb the Matterhorn via the Hӧrnli Hut or occasionally the Lion ridge from Cervinia, on the Italian side, building flexibility into the program.
The Matterhorn is a technical climb, and you should have experience of climbing Alpine routes to at least AD and have current multi-pitch rock climbing experience to Severe / Hard Severe* and Scottish Grade 2* winter climbing to ensure you can move quickly over all terrain. The ascent is dependant on weather and the route being in condition free of snow. The guide will also assess your climbing ability during the first few days; if it is deemed you are not ready for the Matterhorn, you will have the option to climb alternative peaks.
(* Having climbed a single route at this grade on an instructed course does not mean you can necessarily move efficiently and quickly; often you need to have climbed multiple routes at these grades)

[The guides Massimo & Guido] were outstanding and a credit to mountain guides generally. I would say that their level of experience and expertise is far above that expected and they taught us valuable lessons in mountaineering which will stick with us and make us not only better mountaineers but safe and able to make good decisions. Please can you at Adventure Peaks make sure you recognise these two guides and pass on how we really value their instruction. Keep them on your books! At the hotel the staff were fabulous. All was great.
This was my second AP trip. As with the first it was excellent in every respect. Our guide Hannah was exceptional.
