6th November 2023 - Back at Base Camp

Chris and the team are now all back safe at base camp. Tonight will be a night of celebrations for the group and no doubt one of Ang Mu's flaming Chicken Sizzlers.

5th November 2023 - Summit Success

Summit success for the team. Chris sent a message on the tracker to say that Chris, Phursemba and Steve reached the summit today, and have made their way down to camp 2. More information from summit night when they get back to base camp.

2nd November 2023 - moving up

The team are at camp 1. and are moving well. They will now move up through the camps, the weather forecast is currently looking good so we are keeping our fingers crossed for that.

30th October 2023 - First Rotation Complete.

Chris and the team are now back down at base camp after their first successful rotation on the mountain. They stayed at Camp 1 and touched Camp 2 before returning to base camp. They will now rest for a couple of days before heading back up for their summit push.

24th October 2023 - Climb Preparation

This morning some time was spent going through some practice and refresher training on the use of fixed ropes. In the afternoon they climbed the initial snow slopes above base camp up to 5270m, giving some fantastic views of their route up towards the summit of Himlung Himal. Tomorrow will be spent packing and preparing for the next stage of the climb.

22nd October 2023 - Made it to Base Camp

Following a short exploratory walk to the Phu Monastery yesterday, and a lot of rest, the team have now made it to the base camp. Greeted with an amazing chicken dinner, they are now settling in and looking forward to starting the climb.

20th October 2023 - Trekking to Phu

After 2 stunning days of trekking, they have arrived at Phu. Following a rest day tomorrow, they will then be walking the last day of the trek into basecamp.

18th October 2023 - Jeep ride to Koto

Very scenic jeep ride today up to Koto - chilly on arrival so shorts were swapped for trousers and down jackets! Everyong is looking forward to beginning the trek to Himlung BC tomorrow.

17th October 2023 - Travel to Besisahar

Chris and the team made the long drive to Besisahar, which is actually lower and hotter than Kathmandu. Staying in a nice hotel with en suite bathrooms, a luxury in this region, along with enjoying some Dairy Milk for dessert. Tomorrow they will take a jeep up a rough track to Koto where our trek to basecamp will begin.

16th October 2023 - Arrived!!

The team have all safely arrived in Kathmandu. Following an enjoyable day exploring the sights and sounds that Kathmandu has to offer, they were treated to a cultural experiance and evening meal, including the traditional Yak greeting. They will start their drive into the mountains tomorrow.

The team departs on the 14th of October and are due to arrive in Kathmandu on the 15th

About Chris Harling

Chris Harling has over 21 years experience teaching a wide range of outdoor activities. He is a qualified teacher and member of several National Governing Bodies including the Association of Mountaineering Instructors. He is a trainer and assessor for the Mountain Leader and the Single Pitch Awards and is qualified to teach Summer and Winter mountaineering. His vast climbing and mountaineering experience has taken him to six continents, including Himalayan expeditions. Chris has climbed Mt. Everest via the North Ridge twice with Adventure Peaks.
