Our South American base for training will take you deep into the beautiful setting of Bolivia’s Cordillera Real where you will learn your skills among some magnificent and shapely peaks far away from the crowded European Alps. You will undergo training in Alpine skills and learn what it feels like to be part of an expedition whilst also being able to attempt your first peaks at 5000m to 6000m. The course is ideal for regular mountain scramblers or climbers who want to broaden their experience under the guidance of our expert leaders and instructors. No technical skills are required but you will need a good level of fitness and confidence. For this course we have achieved a fully inclusive cost for two weeks that is roughly equivalent to many one week courses in the European Alps! The courses cover:

  • Use of Ice Axe and Crampons
  • Glacial Travel
  • Crevasse Rescue
  • Travelling on fixed lines
  • Rappelling/Abseiling
  • Building High Altitude Camps
  • Food issues at altitude
  • Cooking and Boiling Water at High Altitude
  • Medical & Heath issues
  • Equipment for high altitude
  • Mountain Weather
  • AMS – Acute mountain sickness
  • Avalanche awareness & snow conditions
  • Local Culture

We will aim to summit four peaks including Pico Austria (5100m),  Pyramid Blanca (5230m) , Tarija (5300m) overlooked by the  beautiful Pequeno Alpamayo (5337m) and Huayana Potosi (6088m) as a fitting climax to your course. Unlike the European Alps, Bolivia has a reputation for having the most stable and reliable mountain weather in the world.

Insurance

It is essential for a trip of this type that you are adequately insured. When researching insurance options, please ensure the policy covers you for the following:

  • Cancellation or curtailment
  • Helicopter rescue (most insurance companies will no longer cover for ‘search and rescue’ but providing you stay with the group, they will assist with ‘rescue’)
  • Repatriation
  • The altitude that you are expected to attain
  • The location especially when travelling to Antarctica
  • Grade of trek/climb/expedition
  • Medical cover

Adventure Peaks partners with Global Rescue to offer the world’s leading travel protection services. Medical and security emergencies happen. When they do, we rely on Global Rescue to provide our clients with medical, security, travel risk and crisis response services. Without a membership, an emergency evacuation could cost over $100,000. More than one million members trust Global Rescue to get them home safely when the unexpected happens. We highly recommend our clients enroll with Global Rescue, in particular for peaks over 7000m:
